KABUL, May 9 (Xinhua) -- At least two people lost their lives and three others sustained injuries as flash floods swept through parts of eastern Afghanistan's Khost province late Thursday, a local official said on Friday.
Heavy rains triggered flash floods in the outskirts of the province's Yaqubi Sabri district, provincial government spokesman Mustaghfir Gurbaz told Xinhua, adding that preliminary information confirms the death of two local residents and the injuries of three others.
The floods also caused heavy financial damage to local people, as dozens of residential houses and shops, hundreds of acres of farmland and rural roads have been washed away or badly damaged throughout the district, said Gurbaz.
On Sunday, rainstorms and flooding caused the death of two people and the injuries of three others in northern Badakhshan province.
Afghanistan's weather department has forecast more rains and warned of flooding in 18 out of the country's 34 provinces in the coming days. ■
