TEHRAN, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi departed Tehran for New Delhi on Wednesday evening for talks with senior Indian officials amid the rising tensions between India and Pakistan.
Heading a diplomatic delegation, Araghchi is scheduled to discuss bilateral issues as well as the latest regional and international developments during the trip, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
He will also co-chair, along with his Indian counterpart Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, a meeting of the joint economic commission to follow up on the latest progress of bilateral economic agreements, the statement said.
The visit comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly attack on tourists in Pahalgam in Indian-controlled Kashmir on April 22.
Earlier this week, Araghchi paid a visit to Pakistan, where he exchanged views with senior Pakistani officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, on bilateral ties as well as regional and international developments. ■
