KABUL, May 8 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan General Directorate of Passports had issued over 2.2 million passports over the past year, local media outlet TOLOnews reported on Thursday.
"We had distributed 2.27 million passports during the year 1403 (in the Persian calendar, which ended on March 20)," TOLOnews quoted Abdul Rahim Hasib, general director of the passport directorate, as saying.
The distribution of passports has brought an income of 13 billion afghani (more than 181 million U.S. dollars), the official said.
He stated that the directorate is capable of printing over 500,000 copies of passports daily if required.
Currently, the General Directorate of Passports is issuing passports through online submissions as well as physical applications. Moreover, passports are delivered straight to the homes of applicants in the national capital, Kabul. ■
