PHNOM PENH, May 7 (Xinhua) -- A bus transporting garment workers to their factory crashed in southwest Cambodia's Kampong Speu province on Wednesday, leaving one person dead and 41 others injured, said the Ministry of Labor's statement.

The fatal accident took place at 6:20 a.m. local time on National Road 44 in Udong Mechey town when the bus driver rear-ended a pick-up truck before crashing into a tree.

"A female worker was pronounced dead, and 41 others got injured including five in critical conditions," the statement said.

The injured workers had been rushed to the Udong Referral Hospital for medical treatment and the National Social Security Fund would take responsibility for their medical costs.

Transporting workers in open trucks or buses to and from factories is common in the Southeast Asian country.

The Ministry of Labor's Spokesman Sun Mesa said three cases of traffic accidents involving workers-carrying trucks had been recorded this year, leaving one dead, 10 seriously wounded, and 78 slightly injured.
