ABU DHABI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- United Arab Emirates (UAE) President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan spoke by phone on Tuesday with Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' Al Sudani to discuss bilateral relations and regional developments, UAE state news agency WAM and the Iraqi prime minister's office said.

The leaders reviewed ties between the UAE and Iraq and discussed ways to boost cooperation, particularly in the economic and development sectors, WAM reported. They also highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination to serve mutual interests and support prosperity in both countries.

The call also addressed regional and international issues, with a particular focus on recent developments in the Middle East. Both leaders reiterated their support for efforts to advance peace and enhance regional security and stability.

In a separate statement, Al Sudani's media office said the two sides discussed ways to strengthen ties, especially in the political and economic spheres, amid "constructive cooperation between the two nations."

The leaders also underscored the need for unified Arab action in response to ongoing regional developments -- particularly the war in Gaza, which has triggered a severe humanitarian crisis. They stressed the importance of maintaining regional stability and security.
