ISLAMABAD, June 7 (Xinhua) -- Remittances sent by overseas Pakistani workers increased by 54.2 percent in May year-on-year, showing the highest-ever inflow in the country, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Friday.
The workers' remittances recorded an inflow of 3.2429 billion U.S. dollars in May as compared to 2.1027 billion dollars recorded in the same month of the previous year.
Additionally, it witnessed an increase of 15.3 percent on a month-on-month basis.
Meanwhile, remittances increased by 7.7 percent during the first 11 months of the current fiscal year from July 2023 to June 2024, the SBP data showed.
Cumulatively, an inflow of 27.0933 billion dollars was recorded in this fiscal year, it added.
Last month, overseas remittances mainly came from Saudi Arabia with 819.3 million dollars, the United Arab Emirates with 668.5 million dollars, Britain with 473.2 million dollars and the United States with 359.5 million dollars, according to the central bank. ■
