NEW DELHI, May 24 (Xinhua) -- The death toll in Thursday's boiler blast at a chemical factory in India's south-western state of Maharashtra climbed to 11 on Friday, confirmed a local fire department official.

"Four more dead bodies have been recovered this morning, taking the total death toll to 11," said the fire department official, adding that the number of injured persons had also crossed 60.

A massive blast had taken place in one of the boilers inside a chemical factory situated in Dombivli area of the state's Thane district, near the country's financial capital Mumbai.

Following the blast, fire spread quickly to other parts of the factory leading to multiple blasts. The sound of blasts could be heard at a distance of 1.5 km.

The injured people were admitted to a local hospital. Some of them were sent home after medical first-aid.
