HANOI, May 6 (Xinhua) -- Prices of the Vietnamese rice in the global market rose by 3 to 8 U.S. dollars per ton last week, helping the Southeast Asian country return to the top position in terms of export rice prices, Vietnam News Agency reported Monday, citing the Vietnam Food Association.

The price for Vietnam's 5 percent broken rice, at 585 dollars per ton, is higher than the same type of Thailand by 3 dollars per ton, and 10 dollars per ton higher than the same product of Pakistan, said the association.

The Vietnam's 25 percent broken rice and 100 percent broken rice are priced at 555 dollars and 470 dollars per ton, respectively.

Vietnam earned 2.08 billion dollars in the first four months of this year from exporting 3.23 million tons of rice, up 36.5 percent in value and 11.7 percent in volume over the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

Vietnam's rice output is expected to reach 43 million tons in 2024, which is able to ensure domestic consumption and meet the export demand of more than 8 million tons, said the ministry.
