MADRID, May 4 (Xinhua) -- Real Madrid were crowned as the La Liga champions for the 2023-2024 season on Saturday after beating Cadiz 3-0 in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium, and Girona beat FC Barcelona 4-2.

Brahim Diaz, Jude Bellingham and Joselu scored to give a much-changed Real Madrid three points, which put them 14 points ahead of FC Barcelona, meaning Barca had to win their match away to third-placed Girona to delay Madrid's title celebrations.

Barcelona got a perfect start when Andres Christensen fired them ahead from outside of the penalty ahead in the third minute, but Girona equalized immediately when Ivan Martin crossed for Artem Dovbyk to head in his 20th goal of the season.

Robert Lewandowski restored Barca's lead from the penalty spot in the first half injury time after Lamine Yamal was caught in the edge of the Girona penalty area.

Everything changed when Girona scored three goals in nine second half minutes, with Portu, who had just entered the game as a substitute, scoring after an error from Sergi Roberto.

Miguel Gutierrez made it 3-2 just three minutes later with a deflected shot and Portu's second of the game in the 75th minute with a spectacular volley sealed the win that lifts them second and makes Real Madrid champions.

Carlo Ancelotti's side have won 27 of their 34 matches so far this season, drawing six and suffering just one defeat, which was away to local rivals, Atletico Madrid on September 24.
