RIO DE JANEIRO, May 3 (Xinhua) -- Fluminense has reached an agreement to sign veteran Chelsea defender Thiago Silva on a free transfer, according to widespread media reports in Brazil.
The 39-year-old former Brazil captain, whose contract with the Premier League club will expire next month, agreed to a deal that runs until June 2026, Globo Esporte said on Friday.
It added that Silva would be free to complete the move when Brazil's winter transfer window opens on July 10.
On Monday, Silva confirmed that he would leave Chelsea at the end of the season after four years with the London outfit.
Silva began his youth career at Fluminense in 1998 and made 97 first-team appearances for the club from 2006 to 2008. ■
