DHAKA, March 11 (Xinhua) -- Bangladeshi Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali has said the country's budget for next fiscal year from July 2024 to June 2025 would focus more on employment generation with continuing reform efforts in various sectors.
"We'll have to increase employment generation to a larger extent as efforts are underway to overcome the foreign currency reserve issue," he said.
The minister made the remarks when speaking to reporters after a long pre-budget meeting for fiscal year 2024-25 with the country's renowned economists on Sunday night, the national news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) reported Monday.
Ali said economists at the meeting offered good advice, and all of them believe the government was in the right direction to deal with the existing economic situation.
"I've never said that there is no problem. But we've got praises that we've been handling the situation well and so far everything is good," he said.
"Everyone knows what the underlying problems are, so they have remarked that everything is well so far, but we've to remain cautious about the problems," he added. ■
