TEHRAN, May 8 (Xinhua) -- Iran and Oman on Monday agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on making joint investments as well as a preferential trade agreement, according to official news agency IRNA.
The issues were discussed in a meeting between Iranian Minister of Economic Affairs and Finance Ehsan Khandouzi and Omani Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion Qais bin Mohammed Al Yousef in Tehran.
In the meeting, Khandouzi said the relations between Iran and Oman improved in different areas that gained greater momentum following the visit by Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi to Muscat in May 2022.
He said his ministry completely agrees with the proposal and will raise and support the issue in the next meeting of the Iranian cabinet, expressing hope that the MoU will be signed in the first official event between the two states.
For his part, the Omani minister noted that his 200-member delegation have attended meetings with their Iranian counterparts and businessmen at Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) and on the sidelines of the Iran Expo 2023, which opened on Sunday and will continue until Wednesday.
He stressed that these meetings are indicative of Oman's serious interest in developing trade cooperation with Iran.
The Omani minister arrived in Tehran on Sunday and met with Iranian First Vice President Mohammad Mokhber. ■
