BEIJING, Oct. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Netherlands swept all the women's titles at the ISU Short Track Speed Skating World Cup in Montreal on Sunday.
Olympic champion Suzanne Schulting, who had won the women's 1,500m gold on Saturday, triumphed in the 1,000m (2) with a brilliant tactical skate to finish in one minute 31.717 seconds. South Korea's Choi Min-jeong and Kim Gil-li took silver and bronze medals respectively. China's Zhang Chutong ranked fifth, in the only final at Montreal to feature any Chinese representation.
After having taken her first ever individual ISU World Cup gold medal on Saturday, Xandra Velzeboer added her second on Sunday with a win in the 500m. The 21-year-old led all the way to win the title in 42.123. Natalia Maliszewska of Poland took the silver medal, with South Korea's Shim Suk-hee taking bronze.
The Netherlands also won gold in the women's 3,000m relay in 4:09.217, ahead of Canada and Italy.
In the men's competition, Steven Dubois of Canada won the 500m with 40.345, after taking the lead at the first corner and flying ahead. Despite a late charge, South Korea's Lee June-seo had to settle for second, with Pietro Sighel of Italy third.
Canada also took the 1,000m (2) gold medal with Pascal Dion clocking a winning time of 1:23.530. He took the lead with three laps to go and held off the South Korean pair of Hong Kyung-hwan and Kim Tae-sung.
South Korea won the men's 5,000m relay with 7:01.850. Kazakhstan and Canada came second and third respectively.
The ISU World Cup continues on November 4 to 6 in Salt Lake City, the United States. ■
