TEHRAN, Sept. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Aerospace Force of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said Sunday night one of its Sukhoi Su-22 warplanes had an accident earlier in the day in the southern province of Hormuzgan, but no human casualty was sustained.
The fighter jet had a technical defect during a mission, the IRGC's official news outlet Sepah News quoted an IRGC statement as saying.
Before ejecting, the pilot managed to steer the aircraft to a non-residential area, the statement noted, adding the pilot landed safely after activating the ejection seat system.
A similar accident involving the same fighter jet occurred in the southern province of Fars in August. ■
