JERUSALEM, Sept. 16 (Xinhua) -- The Czech Republic took a 2-0 away lead against Israel in the 2022 Davis Cup World Group I on Friday.
The best-of-five tie is played on an indoor hardcourt at the Shlomo Group Arena in Israel's Tel Aviv.
Czech No.1 Jiri Lehecka, currently 63rd in the ATP world rankings, gave his team the first point after he eased past world No. 450 Daniel Cukierman 6-0, 6-4.
Later the day, 109th-ranked Tomas Machac beat world No. 444 Edan Leshem 6-4, 7-5.
The competition continues on Saturday with the doubles match coming first, and the Czech Republic needs only one more point to reach the 2023 qualifiers, which leads to the Finals. ■
