UNITED NATIONS, July 15 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres on Friday appointed a new special coordinator for UN response to sexual exploitation and abuse, as well as a new commander for the UN peacekeeping force on the Golan Heights.
Christian Saunders of Britain, who is currently assistant secretary-general in the Department of Operational Support, will succeed Jane Holl Lute of the United States as special coordinator for UN response to sexual exploitation and abuse, said Farhan Haq, the secretary-general's deputy spokesman.
The secretary-general appointed Maj. Gen. Nirmal Kumar Thapa of Nepal as head of mission and force commander of the UN peacekeeping force on the Golan Heights, formally known as the UN Disengagement Observer Force, said Haq.
Thapa, who has more than 35 years of experience in various leadership positions in the Nepali army and the United Nations, succeeds Lt. Gen. Ishwar Hamal of Nepal, he said. ■
