China beats Chinese Taipei in FIBA Asia Cup

JAKARTA, July 16 (Xinhua) -- China beat Chinese Taipei 95-80 in its last group match at the FIBA Asia Cup men's basketball tournament here on Saturday evening.

China regained its paint dominance as Zhou Qi came back to the team, scoring 10 points and grabbing eight rebound in 18 minutes. Another center, Wang Zhelin, took a team-high 17 points and had seven rebounds. Guards Sun Minghui and Zhao Rui bounced back from last game's haze, scoring 16 and 15 respectively.

On the Chinese Taipei side, William Artino pocketed a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds, and Lin Ting-chien scored a game-high 30 points.

After Saturday's victory, China, led by head coach Du Feng, will take on Indonesia on Monday to qualify for the quarterfinals scheduled on Wednesday.

The FIBA Asia Cup is being held at the Istora Senayan sports stadium from July 12-24. The tournament was initially planned to take place last year, but was postponed due to the pandemic.
