SANTO DOMINGO, Feb. 24 (Xinhua) -- Spaniard Inaki Bea has been appointed head coach of the Dominican Republic men's football team, the Caribbean nation's football federation said on Thursday.
The 43-year-old replaces Mexican Jacques Passy, who was sacked after the team's elimination from the 2022 World Cup qualifying last June.
It will be Bea's first job as a head coach, having previously worked as an assistant at Levante and Eibar.
"[Bea] is young, very prepared and has experience in high-level football with more than 240 games as an assistant coach in Spain's top division," Dominican Football Federation president Ruben Garcia said in a statement.
The Dominican Republic are currently 156th in the FIFA world rankings. ■
