RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb. 20 (Xinhua) -- Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz advanced to the final of the Rio Open with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Italy's Fabio Fognini late on Saturday.
Seventh-seed Alcaraz won 67% of his first service points and converted four of 10 break point opportunities to prevail in one hour and 45 minutes on the outdoor clay of the Jockey Club Brasileiro.
The 18-year-old's opponent in Sunday's final of the ATP 500 event will be third-seed Diego Schwartzman of Argentina, who earlier beat compatriot Francisco Cerundolo 7-6, 6-3.
The semifinalists were forced to play twice on the same day after Friday's quarterfinals were rescheduled because of heavy rain.
Schwartzman, 29, is aiming to win his fifth ATP title while Alcaraz is vying for his second tour victory. ■
