BEIRUT, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- Lebanon's state security announced on Tuesday that it has arrested five members of a human smuggling and trafficking network in the northern city of Tripoli, the National News Agency reported.
The arrested network, which consists of Lebanese and Syrian nationals, confessed to having facilitated the smuggling of people by sea to Cyprus in return for 3,000 U.S. dollars per person.
It also admitted to have been involved in human trafficking activities between Lebanon and Syria.
The network was referred to judicial bodies while security forces continued to track the rest of the network. ■
