On Dec. 19, 2021, an aged couple were cooking dumplings for the villagers in Anfengtang, a township in east China's Anhui Province.
Yao Chuanyong, 75, is the same age as his wife Hu Duoping. The couple struggled in previous decades while raising their two children. But thankfully, things began to get easier once the two children grew up. The old couple began to run a dumpling restaurant in their house to subsidize their family and provide a place for villagers to eat breakfast.
The old couple are busy every day buying ingredients, washing vegetables, chopping stuffing, making, and boiling dumplings. When asked why a bowl of dumplings costs only 3 yuan, the old couple smiled and said, “we remember how hard it was for us in the past. Now we don't worry about food and clothing. We should be kind-hearted and not sell at too high a price, so the villagers can afford our dumplings.”
