MANILA, April 29 (Xinhua) -- Five people, including three children, have died Sunday from drowning in five separate incidents in the Philippines, police reported on Monday.

Police said the fatal accidents occurred during outings to beat the scorching heat sweeping the country the past weeks.

A 24-year-old female worker died while swimming in Laguna province along with fellow factory workers. A six-year-old boy also drowned while swimming in a pool in a resort in another town in Laguna province. His body was found at the bottom of the pool.

In Batangas province, police said that a seven-year-old boy drowned while swimming with his uncle in a river, and a four-year-old girl drowned in a pool in another town.

Police said that an adult man under the influence of alcohol drowned while swimming in the waters off Quezon province. His companions found his body some 10 meters from the shoreline.

Filipinos like to spend time on the beach or at pool resorts during this time of the year to cool off. More so this April, when a "dangerous level" of heat index of more than 50 degrees centigrade was recorded in some areas in the country.
